This application note provides an introduction to the milling of ductile materials using the FRITSCH Planetary mono mill PULVERISETTE 6. Hard and brittle materials can easily be comminuted – reduced to a fine powder – within the Pulverisette 6 grinding bowl, because of the sample’s planetary motion during the process.
Ductile materials, such as copper and gold, which are more readily deformed without fracture, can be comminuted, but to a lesser degree, as illustrated here by the explanatory electron micrographs.
