Mouse Embryonic Fibroblasts for Stem Cell Culture

Mouse Embryonic Fibroblast cells have a vital role in stem cell research where they function as ‘feeder cells' for different lines, providing a substratum that allows cells, such as human embryonic stem cells, to be cultured. Mouse Embryonic Fibroblasts produce a number of components e.g. collagens, glycosaminoglycans, elastic and reticular fibres and cytokines, that help produce the correct conditioned environment for certain stem cells, such as human embryonic cells (hESC) to be maintained. Lacking the optimal culture conditions many embryonic stem cells, such as hESCs will rapidly differentiate.
Newborn Human Foreskin Fibroblasts (NuFFs) have a similar application to Mouse Embryonic Fibroblasts for the maintenance of undifferentiated ESC and iPSC lines. An iPSC being an induced pluripotent cell artificially obtained from an adult somatic cell via specific gene activation, rather than having natural pluripotency.
The two sets of feeder cells from amsbio come either as treated or untreated cryoprotected and frozen samples; standard concentration 4-5 million per vial or higher density 7-8 million cells per vial. Treatment is by irradiation or mitomycin to arrest growth of the feeder cell layer.
