Microbiology Media From Oxoid

Oxoid’s wide range of microbiology media includes agar products and other types of media for a variety of laboratory applications.

The media offered by Oxoid includes the following products:

Oxoid Burkholderia Cepacia Agar Base

This medium is designed for selective B. cepacia isolation in samples of the respiratory secretions of patients with Cystic Fibrosis as well as for routine testing of non-sterile inorganic saline solutions which contain a preservative.

The formula may be customized to suit the requirements of different applications. The basic formula is pH 6.2 ± 0.2 @ 25°C and contains:

  • 5 gm/L peptone
  • 7 gm/L sodium pyruvate
  • 4 gm/L yeast extract
  • 1.5 gm/L bile salts
  • 4.4 gm/L potassium dihydrogen phosphate
  • 1.4 gm/L disodium hydrogen phosphate
  • 1 gm/L ammonium sulphate
  • .2 gm/L magnesium sulphate
  • .001 gm/L ammonium ferrous sulphate
  • .02 gm/L phenol red
  • .001 gm/L crystal violet
  • 12 gm/L agar

 

Oxoid Slanetz and Bartley Microbiology Media

This medium is designed for enterococci detection applications.

The formula may be customized to suit the requirements of different applications. The basic formula is pH 7.2 ± 0.2 @ 25°C and contains:

  • 20 gm/L tryptose
  • 2 gm/L glucose
  • 5 gm/L yeast extract
  • 4 gm/L dipotassium hydrogen phosphate
  • .4 gm/L sodium azide
  • .1 gm/L tetrazolium chloride
  • 10 gm/L agar

Oxoid R2A Agar

This microbiology media is designed for use as a medium in bacteriological examination of drinking water. The formula may be customized to suit the requirements of different applications. The basic formula is pH 7.2 ± 0.2 @ 25°C and contains:

  • .5 gm/L proteose peptone
  • .5 gm/L casein hydrolysate
  • .5 gm/L glucose
  • .5 gm/L yeast extract
  • .5 gm/L starch 
  • .3 gm/L dipotassium phosphate
  • .024 gm/L magnesium sulphate
  • .3 gm/L sodium pyruvate
  • 15 gm/L agar

Oxoid Reinforced Clostridial Microbiology Media (RCM)

Oxoid RCM is designed for culture and enumeration of clostridia and other anaerobes in samples of food and pathological samples. This product is the basal medium for differential RCM. The formula may be customized to suit the requirements of different applications. The basic formula is pH 6.8 and contains:

  • 10 gm/L peptone
  • 10 gm/L lab-lemco powder
  • 5 gm/L glucose
  • 3 gm/L yeast extract
  • 1 gm/L soluble starch 
  • 5 gm/L sodium chloride
  • 3 gm/L sodium acetate
  • .5 gm/L cysteine hydrochloride
  • .5 gm/L agar

Oxoid Czapek Dox Agar

This is a solid microbiology media for culturing bacteria and fungi who are capable of using sodium nitrite as their only nitrogen source. The formula may be customized to suit the requirements of different applications. The basic formula is pH 6.8 ± 0.2 @ 25°C (but may be altered for culturing yeasts and other acidophilic organisms) and contains:

  • 2 gm/L  sodium nitrate
  • .5 gm/L  potassium chloride
  • 30 gm/L sucrose
  • .5 gm/L magnesium glycerophosphate
  • .01 gm/L ferrous sulphate
  • .35 gm/L potassium sulphate
  • 12 gm/L agar
